Named Aolani which translates “heavenly cloud”. This piece was carved on a hot sunny day and when I looked up to the sky, I saw many clouds giving shade from the hot sun. This made me think of how many species on earth need shade to survive and if it was constantly sunny that would be no good and if it was always shady that would be no good either. It is the balance that the Aolani provided that gave the day something to be thankful for. In the adjustable bead I carved one piece from a very white part of ivory and the other from a more yellow piece to symbolize the sun and the heavenly cloud. The third bead holds the chord together for strength.
The piece is carved from rare rare white mammoth ivory. If you look closely you can see the grain patterns that have been formed over thousands of years. This piece is said to have been harvested from a mammoth that was frozen during the ice age. The Mammoth Makau (Hawaiian fish hook) in the picture is the one you will receive.
*Chord is adjustable and can fit over all head shapes and sizes.
